Details:
After getting Sinsation and Wrecked, I tried to get other releases by Pig. Easier said than done, so of course the next logical step would be eBay. As much as they rip you off, just image paying $17 in a cd store; then it doesn't seem to bad. So the only albums I could find that weren't Japanese imports were a handful of vinyls. The prices seemed fair, so I snagged one called 'A Poke in the Eye with a Sharp Stick'. I thought it was a single, and didn't even realize that it was a full length album until I played it.

Since the date of the album was 1988, I was figuring that it would sound sort of off-beat like the '88 KMFDM album 'Don't Blow Your Top' (which Raymond Watts from Pig was on as well). But once it started playing, it proved otherwise, sounding like much of his newer material, only on a lesser level, since he's been continuing to improve over the years. But even though the tracks aren't as complex musically, the songs are instantly catchy and will reside in you head for days (a good thing).

Most of the tracks follow a traditional industrial setting with the exceptions of a few like Hildelinde, which sounds like a depressed german clown singing an opera with an accordian, and Red Man, which is voice from some tele-evangelist type of guy talking about why Christians should be armed.

So if you can find this on eBay or some used music store (make sure they sell used music, stores that are used themselves usually won't have it) pick it up and enjoy the one album from the 80's that is good.

Bottom Line: This is where Pig started, and it's still great stuff. Not as complex and full of sound as later pig efforts, but the songs are twice as catchy.
